Safety Data Sheets & HAZMAT Compliance

Automotive paint contains flammable solvents and isocyanates. Follow all safety protocols for basecoat, clearcoat, primer, sealer, epoxy primer, and 2K urethane products.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Eye Protection

ANSI Z87.1 rated safety goggles or splash-proof glasses. Required when mixing or spraying any automotive paint, including single-stage and 2K urethane.

Respiratory Protection

NIOSH-approved organic vapor respirator (OV/P100) for spraying. Supplied air respirator recommended for isocyanate-containing clearcoat and 2K products.

Skin Protection

Chemical-resistant coveralls or paint suit. Nitrile or butyl rubber gloves. Automotive paint solvents can cause dermatitis on contact.

Chemical Gloves

Nitrile gloves (minimum 8 mil thickness) for mixing. Butyl rubber gloves for extended contact with reducers, hardeners, and catalysts.

Ventilation Requirements

Proper ventilation is critical when working with automotive paint products. Always work in a well-ventilated area, preferably a dedicated spray booth with downdraft filtration.

  • •Spray booth: minimum 100 FPM face velocity per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.94
  • •Open shop: cross-ventilation with exhaust fan rated for flammable vapors
  • •Never spray in enclosed spaces — solvent vapors are heavier than air and accumulate at floor level
